We live in a horribly unjust world when a band as talented as Antlers releases two excellent albums (A Gaze Into the Abyss, and this one), and then disbands for whatever reason, while other bands that are objectively inferior continue to defecate sub-par album after sub-par album. Sigh. Anyway, as far as atmospheric and energetic black metal goes, full of quality riffing, soaring melodies, and thunderous yet varied drumming, beneath.below.behold is one of 2018’s very best.

Sometimes, you need some straightforward, high-tempo, slickly-produced, tremolo riff-infused, melodic, and atmospheric black metal, and with A Gaze Into The Abyss, Antlers deliver exactly that. There is nothing dissonant or avant-garde about this, but we have enough other top-shelf bands releasing that sort of black metal. This is the real deal presented in a concise package, and is worthy of any metal fan’s attention.

L'Euthanasia Coaster, attraction pensée pour tuer ses passagers, n'a jamais dépassé le stade de la conception théorique ; par contre, The Circle est ce qui s'en rapproche le plus. C'est une belle ascension euphorique vers le ciel qui atteint son apogée à "XIX XXI XIV". A partir de là, c'est la chute vertigineuse, trop rapide, avec la tragique sensation qu'il n'y a plus de retour en arrière. Heretoir est au sommet ! 《 there is no forever. 》 — "Exhale".
